Towards Electronic Exams in Undergraduate Engineering A Project on Numerical Mathematics in eExams at the University of Stuttgart

چکیده
In this work, we describe the first step towards electronic exams at the University of Stuttgart. The motivation, both driven by students and lecturers, is to offer assessments that are closer to real-life programming by allowing interactive programming and debugging not possible with pen and paper exams. This is in so far important as skills in computer algebra systems as for example MATLAB or programming languages like Java are an elementary ingredient of any engineering study nowadays. In this paper, we describe the technological basis for computer based exams based on a system already successfully deployed for homework assignments, and describe its transition to an electronic assessment system. We discuss not only the technological requirements on software, its architecture and our choices for hardware, but also provide a brief introduction into the organizational and legal challenges that we are going to overcome. E-assessments and E-exams for Geomatics Studies
We report about our project to introduce web-based automated assessments for engineering studies at the HafenCity University in Hamburg. The assessments are used for free practice and for eExams in the near future in the first-year math lectures of the geomatics studies in Hamburg. We use the out-of-the-box system MapleTA which enables us to put mathematical questions with randomized numbers as...
متن کاملElectronic Structure Investigation of Octahedral Complex and Nano ring by NBO Analysis: An EPR Study
To calculation non-bonded interaction of the [CoCl6]3- complex embedded in nano ring, we focus on the single wall boron-nitride B18N18 nano ring. Thus, the geometry of B18N18 nano ring has been optimized by B3LYP method with EPR-II (Electron paramagnetic resonance) basis set and geometry of the [CoCl6]3- complex has been optimized at B3LYP method with Aldrich’s VTZ basis set and Stuttgart RSC 1...
متن کاملQuantitative risk management in gas injection project: a case study from Oman oil and gas industry
The purpose of this research was to study the recognition, application and quantification of the risks associated in managing projects. In this research, the management of risks in an oil and gas project is studied and implemented within a case company in Oman. In this study, at first, the qualitative data related to risks in the project were identified through field visits and extensive interv...

متن کاملHardware-Based Efficiency Advances in the EXA-DUNE Project
We present advances concerning efficient finite element assembly and linear solvers on current and upcoming HPC architectures obtained in the frame of the EXA-DUNE project, part of the DFG priority program 1648 Software for Exascale Computing (SPPEXA). In this project, we aim at the development of both flexible and efficient hardware-aware software components for the solution of PDEs based on t...
